Making money online: Blogging

Search Engine Optimisation Philosophy

The internet is full of information on ways to increase traffic and there is a mad rush on the internet expressway to get attention.  The ubiquitous ‘stay

at home get rich mom’ is in your face, if not, the young Russian and Asian women seeking your attention.

I am no exception to this rush to get traffic.  There are hordes of genuine advisors who give advice to get the traffic. Giving free advice is a means to an end.  I tie in what the internet forces these ‘make income from home’ wannabes to a philosophy. Not entirely new, but a desirable one indeed.  Knowledge is to be shared and without its sharing, knowledge does not spread. By sharing knowledge we grow our own knowledge. The more you give the more you get.

This is not the case with money.

In Hinduism we have two separate Goddesses for these requirements. The Goddess of knowledge is Saraswati and for money we have Laksmi.   It will be disastrous if we mix them up. If we try to make money by selling knowledge, the chances are slim of any success. You can see the plight of universities around the world looking for funding and grants from the state.  To keep them going they make degrees essential for jobs, so there is a demand for education.

How to make money working from home on the internet

Gods are not interested in how you make money. Society is, and that throws up the question of ethics and morality. Content is king and will always be rewarded. Original content will be the king of kings.

There are many dot com gurus, one has to give it to them for the success in making money out of the internet. It is hard to separate the haves from the have nots and carefully crafted marketing disguises them all.

One of the sure things that are a giveaway is the money factor. If there is a price and people are willing to pay it, there will be millions who will have made millions.  There is no gain without pain. We do have to define pain and even the sacrifice of not earning anything can be painful.  So you are on a path of making gain without earning any money. This is why knowledge was meant to be free till intellectual property, specialisation and cost of education made it necessary to recover investment in it. On the internet it is best to keep knowledge and business separate. You can define both these for yourself.

John Chow, Lisa3876, Videojug and Golf

Of the several gurus I have come across the most beneficial ones were the golf ones. There are several and a particular one is: http://www.videojug.com/tag/golf . It improved my game and did bring the lost ball count to zero very soon.  Likewise there are many that offer knowledge for free.  They seek readership and compete in the search engine wars.

The ulterior motive is to gain revenue through advertising on the internet super way with their particular sites and pages acting as bill boards.

I follow some very energetic people to see and follow their advice. The first one is Lisa3876 on youtube. The other is John Chow  .

First step: To get into blogging or selling on the web one needs a good web host and I will recommend Bluehost. Or, you could try Hostgator. You can start by going into WordPress, a fairly user friendly CMS.

Blogging is a must as it will be the reason people will come to visit the site.  Good content is therefore imperative. Now what is good is not necessarily popular. So it has to be niche or unique, popular and something that readers can get value.  Ask yourself this question: how are you adding value to your readers. I have a non commercial argument here. A subject like philosophy adds immense value to humanity, but will have little commercial value in the SEO wars. SEO wars define their own ethics and are built on trying to get a top ranking on search engines.

Start your own blog with WordPress and Bluehost

At the end of the day it is a business. So be it. Now here are the steps that you can take to becoming a blogger or starting a webs site.

  1. Visit WordPress.com (.org cannot be monetised but is free).  The wordpress.com CMS (content management system) is free, but needs a domain host. Open an account in WordPress.com
  2. Open an account with Bluehost . There is a minimal charge to create a
domain name and host your site. Follow the set up instructions and you are on your way.Image representing Bluehost as depicted in Cru...
  3. Before doing any of the above, collect your thoughts, write some blogs (not less than 400 words), on your subject, collect pictures and set a launch date by when you will go live.

If you believe in something, you develop faith and conversely too with faith you develop belief. Just deluding yourself will not help. Take action, your fist step.

You are welcome to contact me to start and be on this journey.
